Sugarcane workers in Pernambuco are demanding a 15% wage increase.
With the adjustment, the salary would reach R$ 800; according to the Federation of Agricultural Workers of Pernambuco, there are other important aspects to be discussed that are related to the quality of labor relations and that include policies such as unemployment insurance, housing and health.
PE247 – Hundreds of sugarcane workers participated in the 20th Congress of Union Delegates of the Zona da Mata region of Pernambuco, Saturday (17) and Sunday (18), in Carpina, to discuss the demands of the category, which will hold assemblies in several municipalities in Pernambuco, in the month of September, aiming at the approval of the proposals. The main demand of the farmers is a 15% salary increase, which would reach R$ 800. Currently, the sugarcane sector employs 70 workers, who receive a salary of R$ 690.
The campaign's central theme is: "Decent Work + Access to Public Policies = Quality of Life". According to the Federation of Agricultural Workers of Pernambuco (Fetape), the objective is to show that there are other important aspects, besides salary adjustments, to be discussed, related to the quality of labor relations and including policies such as unemployment insurance, housing, and health.
According to the organization, assemblies will be held on September 8th and 15th at the Rural Workers' Unions of the Southern and Northern Mata regions, respectively, to approve this agenda.
