Campos: "Everything Mantega says, the opposite happens"

Presidential candidate Eduardo Campos (PSB), who is campaigning in Rio Grande do Sul, harshly criticized Finance Minister Guido Mantega; according to Campos, everything Mantega says "comes to the contrary" and the government will implement a "tariff hike" soon after the elections; "If he's saying there won't be a tariff hike, it's because there will be. Just examine what he's been saying and everything he says comes to pass," he stated.

Pernambuco 247 - Not content with criticizing the government of President Dilma Rousseff (PT), early this Friday morning (1), during an interview given to Rádio Gaúcha, the former governor of Pernambuco and presidential candidate Eduardo Campos (PSB) also criticized the Minister of Finance, Guido Mantega. According to Campos, in everything that is said by Mantega "the opposite happens" and that the government should implement a "tariff hike" which, according to him, is already in the drawer for after the election".

Mantega had said in an interview with the newspaper Estado de São Paulo that the government intends to promote a series of adjustments to public tariffs that would be implemented soon after the October elections. According to him, this type of information is incorrect and a generalized readjustment [a massive tariff hike] is ruled out for 2015.

"The Finance Minister goes to the newspapers to say that it's all talk, that there won't be a huge tariff hike. First, the Finance Minister shouldn't use that kind of term. Second, if he's saying there won't be a huge tariff hike, it's because there will be. Just examine what he's been saying and everything he says turns out the opposite," said Campos during an event with activists in Pelotas (RS).

"He said interest rates wouldn't rise, and they skyrocketed. He said Brazil would grow, and Brazil is falling. He said there wouldn't be unemployment, and there is unemployment. If he's saying there won't be a price hike, you can write that down because it's already in the drawer for after the election," the socialist exclaimed. According to him, if elected, he will instill "confidence" in the market because Brazil will be well-governed in terms of macroeconomics.

Early in the morning, Campos had already strongly criticized President Dilma, stating that it is necessary to decentralize the Union's resources and improve the current federal pact. "We need to improve the Brazilian federation. The Dilma government, besides paralyzing Brazil, concentrated resources up there (in the Union)," he said in an interview with a radio station in Porto Alegre. Campos also advocated for the renegotiation of state debts with the federal government.
