Campos on the PT's attack: "It doesn't even deserve a response"

After the national vice-president of the PT (Workers' Party), federal deputy José Guimarães, said that the governor of Pernambuco was ungrateful and was hurting President Dilma Rousseff, the presidential candidate was emphatic: "This doesn't even deserve a response"; the president of the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) also reinforced his favorable position on the project of Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG), pre-candidate for the Presidency, which ends reelection and establishes a five-year term for the governor.

Campos on the PT's attack: "It doesn't even deserve a response"

PE247 – After the national vice-president of the PT, federal deputy José Guimarães, said that the governor of Pernambuco and presidential candidate, Eduardo Campos (PSB), was ungrateful and that he was hurting President Dilma Rousseff (PT), the PSB member was emphatic: “This doesn’t even deserve a response,” he said, this Tuesday (30), after presenting the balance of the Pact for Life, a project that aims to reduce crime rates in the State. On the occasion, the manager also reinforced his favorable position on the project of Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG), pre-candidate for the Presidency, which puts an end to re-election and establishes a five-year term for the governor.

Despite reiterating that the PSB does not have a firm position on the project of the PSDB parliamentarian, Campos said that this stance is not new within the socialist party. “We don't have a party position on this matter. We voted against the reelection process in the past. There are many people who sympathize with it, who understand that a five-year term without elections in the middle can be a much more productive period,” he stated.

Interestingly, rumors have surfaced that the governor of Pernambuco called Senator Aécio Neves to express his support for the PSDB candidate in this proposal. According to columnist Vera Magalhães of the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, Campos and Aécio believe that the project, if approved, would be the beginning of a "good political reform."

Campos took the opportunity to defend the unification of elections, instead of holding elections every two years. "The party is very much in favor of holding elections simultaneously. I think we need this, even for the functioning of the country's administrative life, to simplify federal agreements, which are often impacted when there are elections in the municipalities, in the state, and in the national elections," he added.

Regarding speculation that former president Lula (PT) had said that Campos' candidacy is irreversible, the PSB member declined to comment. "I'm not here to comment on what he supposedly said. There are no quotes, nor any statement from him addressing this issue," he declared. The presidential candidate also denied having a scheduled meeting with the PT's top leader.
