Campos says he is concerned about the "very bad" GDP.

The 0,5% reduction in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2013 was classified by the governor of Pernambuco and presidential candidate for the PSB party, Eduardo Campos, as a "worrying" sign for the Brazilian economy; a frequent critic of President Dilma Rousseff's (PT) economic management, the socialist argued that the decrease in the index was due to a reduction in investments; according to him, the projected 2% GDP growth for 2013 is "very bad".

Pernambuco 247 - The 0,5% reduction in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2013 was classified by the governor of Pernambuco and presidential candidate for the PSB party, Eduardo Campos, as a "worrying" sign for the Brazilian economy. A frequent critic of President Dilma Rousseff's (PT) economic management, the socialist argued that the decrease in the index resulted from a reduction in investments, stating that the decrease is not seasonal. According to him, the projected 2% GDP growth for 2013 is "very bad".

The statements were made after the funeral of the governor of Sergipe, Marcelo Déda, who died this Monday (2) due to gastrointestinal cancer. Campos stated that he “has been trying to give suggestions for a long time” – referring to the constant jabs he has been making at President Dilma’s administration – and confessed to being “concerned about the country”. According to the manager, the drop in GDP and the data presented by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) would be a consequence of the reduction in investments.

“[Investments] are everything we need to accelerate. What happened is that we had a contraction in them, which makes us worried about the future,” the manager analyzed. “At the same time that we put together the information that the quarter had the first drop since 2009, and that there were drops in investments, we are worried about what will happen in 2014,” he observed.

The manager also took the opportunity to criticize President Dilma's conduct on the matter. "Not having the posture to deny the problem, or the self-sufficiency of wanting to do everything without listening to those who have lived through these situations, ends up generating a situation like this," he said, before adding: "I believe we need to work to win in 2014." According to the latest Datafolha Institute poll, released last week, Campos has 11% of the voting intentions, while Dilma and Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG) have 47% and 19% respectively.

Despite the criticism, the socialist stated that he is interested in the resumption of economic growth, although he stressed that business leaders are already noticing the signs present in the released data. "In fact, the various organized sectors of the economy are already realizing that there are signs in these indicators. But everyone is hoping that this situation will be reversed, and that we can have a recovery in the Brazilian economy in 2014, and not a worsening," he assessed.
