Pernambuco 247 - The governor of Pernambuco and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Eduardo Campos (PSB), announced that he will indeed resign from his position next year to run for the presidency. Welcoming President Dilma Rousseff (PT), who is in Recife participating in a series of events related to the naval and oil sectors, as well as announcing investments in mobility, Campos said that "this may be the last time I have the pleasure of receiving her as governor of Pernambuco." Despite publicly announcing his candidacy, the socialist emphasized the good relations between them and said that Tuesday's meeting "is between those who know how to separate public interest from political interest."
“For many, this moment could be understood as a meeting between political figures who will experience different political moments. But it is an institutional meeting, of those who know how to separate the public interest from the political interest,” said Campos during the ceremony marking the completion of the construction of the P-62 platform at the Atlântico Sul Shipyard. Further emphasizing his relationship with the president, Campos said that he “has always considered the president an honorable Brazilian” and that, in this respect, the current political moment does not override institutional issues and matters for the benefit of the population.
Despite the cordiality and gratitude for the federal initiatives, the governor took the opportunity to criticize the Federal Government's regional development policy. “The Northeast has 28% of the Brazilian population, but represents only 13,5% of the wealth. It seems that we have to do more, people have to do more than others to improve their lives,” he stated. Regarding the announcement made by President Dilma for the area of mobility – the president launched a tender worth R$ 2,9 billion for the construction of a ring road in the Recife Metropolitan Region, in addition to other urban mobility works totaling more than R$ 1 billion – Campos said that “these works are done with resources from the Brazilian people. In the new policy, the resources belong to the people and return to the people in the form of public works.”
The governor's observation attempts to put an end to the dispute over who should take credit for the ongoing projects, which in many cases are contested by both socialists and members of the Workers' Party.
