Campos laments debate following tragedy in BH.

For the PSB candidate, accusations between the federal government and the Belo Horizonte City Hall, led by his party, regarding responsibility for the viaduct collapse that left two people dead "are a disrespect to the lives we lost"; according to him, "the responsibility lies with all authorities to investigate in order to establish objective responsibility from a judicial standpoint"; despite being from the same party, Mayor Márcio Lacerda is against fielding his own candidate in the state and supports the PSDB candidate Pimenta da Veiga.

Pernambuco 247 – Eduardo Campos, the PSB presidential candidate, described the exchange of accusations between the federal government and the Belo Horizonte City Hall regarding responsibility for the viaduct collapse in the Minas Gerais capital, which killed two people and injured 23 others, as "lamentable."

"This debate is regrettable. It is even disrespectful to the lives we have lost. The responsibility lies with all authorities to carry out an investigation to have objective responsibility and from a judicial point of view," said the presidential candidate, this Saturday (5), the same day he visited the opening of the Japan Fair, at the Immigrant Exhibition Center, in São Paulo.

The head of the municipal executive is Márcio Lacerda, from the same party as Campos. However, in Minas Gerais, the party colleague of the former governor of Pernambuco opposes the party's own candidacy and supports former minister Pimenta da Veiga (PSDB).

One day after the incident, which occurred last Thursday (3), the Minister of Cities, Gilberto Occhi, said that the responsibility for carrying out the works lies with the Municipality of Belo Horizonte (read hereOn the other hand, Mayor Márcio Lacerda (PSB) stated that "Accidents like this happen."The manager also said, to find the functioning of a road "normal". underneath the viaduct under construction, which collapsed.

As a result of the tragedy in Belo Horizonte, last Thursday (3), the city hall summoned those involved in the work to gather all the data about what happened, prepare a diagnosis of the causes of the accident and define the measures that will be taken.

Technicians from Cowan, the company responsible for the works, Consol, responsible for the project, and the Municipal Secretariat of Public Works and Infrastructure, as well as Civil Defense, were summoned. According to a statement released by the municipal government, the group will form a committee to monitor the work of the expert analysis and preparation of a technical report by the competent authorities.

The viaduct, which was in the finishing phase, was due to be delivered at the end of this month. In February of this year, another viaduct from the same complex of works for the installation of the BRT was closed because part of the work moved laterally, about 30 centimeters in relation to the structure. The viaduct that collapsed is one of the main access roads to Mineirão, which is about four kilometers from the accident, and will host, next Tuesday (8), at 17 pm, the match between Brazil and Germany, valid for the semifinals of the World Cup - the other game takes place a day later, between the Netherlands and Argentina, at the same time, at Arena Corinthians, Itaquerão.

Election

Campos visited the exhibition accompanied by his running mate, former minister Marina Silva (PSB), who was visibly better known and more sought after than her party colleague. "Certainly, on election day, we will have 100% knowledge of Brazil, of the options that will be offered to Brazil, of our ideas. Above all, showing that it is possible to change Brazil for the better, that Brazil has a way forward, and that there are people in Brazil trying to show society that with courage we can make real change," declared Marina.

The former governor said that his party will run a campaign "based on ideas, spontaneous activism, a campaign with many volunteers." "We have been debating the government plan on an online platform for about six months with researchers, scientists, and social movement activists who have been voluntarily contributing their ideas," he stated.
