Campaign attempts to annul revision of the Master Plan.
Launched on Wednesday (22), “Save Goiânia!” aims to collect 50 signatures for a popular initiative project that seeks to block changes to the urban planning law of the capital; the movement claims that legislation approved in the Chamber and sanctioned by Mayor Paulo Garcia (PT) violates the City Statute and the government program presented in the 2012 elections by the Goiânia, Sustainable City coalition.
Goiás247_ The Popular Initiative Bill, with the theme: “Save Goiânia!”, was launched this Wednesday morning (22) at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Samambaia Campus, and has already exceeded expectations, with more than a thousand signatures collected. The team continues this Thursday at the Campus.
The project aims to gather approximately 50 signatures from Goiânia citizens to annul the law revising the Goiânia Master Plan, approved by 24 city councilors and sanctioned by Mayor Paulo Garcia (PT). This law disregarded public opinion, violating the City Statute and the government program presented in the 2012 elections by the coalition: "Goiânia, Sustainable City!"
From the launch date, the campaign will reach all neighborhoods in the city with a signature collection table. See the partial schedule below.
The project is a grassroots initiative and involves residents from all over Goiânia: students, environmental associations, unions, and churches of various denominations. It is based on the Municipal Organic Law, the Federal Constitution, and the Internal Regulations of the City Council, and requires at least 5% of the city's electorate to sign it before it can be presented.
The movement believes that the approval of the revised Master Plan did not respect the City Statute regarding popular participation in discussions and decisions concerning the municipality of Goiânia. The Master Plan is and should be participatory, the organizations argue.
“The “Save Goiânia!” campaign aims to show that there is still time to save Goiânia from chaotic traffic and the total pollution of its water sources. It is time to save the North Region, the most preserved area of the capital, which guarantees environmental control in the city. Be part of this campaign!”, says the movement's informational material.
Among the entities supporting the Save Goiânia! movement are the Verdivale Ecological Association, the UFG Student Union, the Caiçara Housing Complex Residents Association, the Biologists' Union, and the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of the State of Goiás.
