Truck drivers shut down 381 highways in protest.
The road blockade on the BR highway has already reached nine kilometers in length within the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte; the main protest by the drivers concerns the increase in the price of diesel fuel and freight costs in the region.
Minas 247 - Truck drivers are blocking some lanes of the BR-381 highway in protest against the increase in diesel fuel prices and freight rates - there is no forecast for when the lanes will be reopened.
The main road blockades are in Igarapé, with nine kilometers of road closures, and near the cities of Oliveira and Perdões, in the central-west region of the state. Passenger cars and buses are being allowed to pass, while trucks entering the road are being forced to stop due to the protest.
"We are providing coverage of the strikes across the country. Each road is a different case, and in Minas Gerais it happened because of the mining," said José Natan, president of the Interstate Truck Drivers Union. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) advised truck drivers to avoid the protest areas.
