Camilo faces first crisis with his allied base.
The resignation of Representative David Duran, PRB, from his position as Secretary of Sports publicly exposes a crisis within the allied base in the Legislative Assembly. The PRB released an official statement justifying the decision. The Governor has not yet commented on the matter. However, this event exposes, for the first time, the dissatisfaction surrounding the allied base in the Assembly.
The Camilo Santana government is facing its first political crisis with its allied base. Deputy David Duran, from the PRB party, has resigned from his position as Secretary of Sports.
The composition of the cabinet required a great effort from the governor to accommodate the parties and bring some alternates to the Legislative Assembly. The PT, Camilo Santana's party, elected only two state deputies and it was in the party's interest to increase its representation. To that end, several deputies had to be placed in secretarial positions. This is the case of Ivo Gomes, David Duran, Osmar Baquit, and Mirian Sobreira. Ivo Gomes is in the Secretariat of Cities, Osmar Baquit has taken over the Secretariat of Fisheries, and Mirian Sobreira is expected to assume the Secretariat of Drug Policy, whose proposal is currently being processed in the Legislative Assembly.
With these indications, the expectation was that former congresswoman Rachel Marques, from the PT party and fourth alternate in the coalition, would assume a seat in the Assembly in March. With David Duran's resignation, the situation becomes more complicated.
When contacted by Ceará 247, the congresswoman stated that she did not know what would happen next, since she had not yet spoken with Governor Camilo Santana. The president of the PT in Ceará, Francisco de Assis Diniz, also stated that he had no information on the matter. According to him, he spent the afternoon in an internal meeting resolving organizational issues within the party.
The PRB published an official statement listing the reasons for David Duran's resignation. In the statement, the party argues that it was a collective decision, given the need for the party to regain representation in the Legislative Assembly, as well as "some management decisions that point to the limitation of the scope of action of SESPORTE, affecting aspects such as autonomy and technical capacity, manifested in decisions such as the abrupt reduction of the already small team of collaborators; the transfer of responsibilities to another department unrelated to sports, as expressed through Message No. 7.719, sent for the consideration of the Legislative Assembly, which links the contracts and management of the Castelão Arena and the Olympic Training Center (CFO) to the Civil House".
The PRB's decision publicly exposes, for the first time, dissatisfaction within its allied base in the Assembly. In the corridors, other parliamentarians are expressing dissatisfaction with the government, particularly regarding the appointment of positions. Many feel they are not being considered. In a way, this is reflected in the limited participation of parliamentarians in defending the government, in response to daily criticism from the opposition.
The government leader himself, Representative Evandro Leitão, rarely participates in the sessions. With all the debate surrounding the Ceará Aquarium, for example, he hasn't intervened at all. And today, even when questioned about the alleged existence of a bill he authored regarding the legalization of alcoholic beverages in stadiums, he wasn't present at the session.
