Brasilia - The president of the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Nelson Pellegrino (PT-BA), said today (2), through his press office, that he will invite the Minister of Justice, José Eduardo Cardozo, to provide clarifications on the recent allegations of espionage, by US agencies, against President Dilma Rousseff and her advisors. For Pellegrino, the allegations are "very serious".

According to Pellegrino, the idea is to promote a joint session of the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committees and the Joint Committee for the Control of Intelligence Activities. He stated that Cardozo will detail the meetings he held in Washington, D.C., in the United States. Last week, the minister spoke with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, the advisor for Counterterrorism Affairs, Lisa Monaco, and the head of the Department of Justice, Eric Holder.

In the Senate, the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Ricardo Ferraço (PMDB-ES), said that the federal government needs to take the allegations to international bodies such as the United Nations (UN).

In the morning, Dilma summoned ministers for two emergency meetings at the Planalto Palace to discuss the espionage allegations, attributed to United States agencies, shown yesterday (1st) on the Fantástico program, on TV Globo.

Today, the United States Ambassador to Brazil, Thomas Shannon, also went to Itamaraty to provide clarifications on the matter to Foreign Minister Figueiredo Machado. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Itamaraty, confirmed that Cardozo and Figueiredo will hold a press conference at 16 pm.
