      Chamber says it opposes federalizing the death of Campos's orange grove.

      The Governor of Pernambuco, Paulo Câmara (PSB), said he is against the federalization of the investigations into the death of businessman Paulo César de Barros Morato, identified as a "front man" in the political campaigns of former governor Eduardo Campos (PSB) and one of those investigated in Operation Turbulence; "I have confidence in the work that the Civil Police are doing. This work has been monitored by the Federal Police. I hope that the doubts will be answered throughout this week. In every federalization that has occurred here in the State, at the end of the investigations, the same response from the Civil Police was observed. We are giving all the support and we want the investigation to be carried out in the most professional way possible," he said.

      "I have confidence in the work that the Civil Police are doing. This work has been monitored by the Federal Police. I hope that the questions will be answered throughout this week. In every federalization that has occurred here in the State, at the end of the investigations, the same response from the Civil Police was observed. We are giving all the support and we want the investigation to be carried out in the most professional way possible," Câmara emphasized.

      The head of Social Communication for the Federal Police in Pernambuco, Giovani Santoro, said that the federalization of the investigations, requested by state deputy Edison Silva (PSOL), is decided in Brasília by the Attorney General's Office. "If natural death is proven, there's no way to request federalization. If the Civil Police prove it was a cover-up, then yes, the case can be transferred to the Federal Police," he said.

      Paulo César de Barros Morato was found dead on Wednesday (22), in a motel room in Olinda, Metropolitan Region of Recife. He was wanted by the Federal Police as part of Operation Turbulence on suspicion of being a front man in a criminal scheme that allegedly moved more than R$ 600 million and that also allegedly financed the reelection campaigns of former governor Eduardo Campos, in 2010, and the Presidency of the Republic, in 2014.
