Bahia 247 - The Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) will inaugurate its advanced campus in Camaçari in January 2018 for engineering and technology courses. 400 places will be available in the first selection process. Mayor Antônio Elinaldo (DEM) received the university's rector, João Sales, this Friday (25) for a technical meeting followed by a visit to Cidade do Saber, the location indicated by the Democrat to function as a temporary campus until the construction of the definitive one in the Ceped area, on the BA-512 highway.
Elinaldo highlighted the "importance of the moment." "We are working hard so that, at the beginning of next year, we can have UFBA (Federal University of Bahia) in Camaçari. This is a priority for us, and whatever needs to be done to improve the infrastructure, we will do it, because we cannot lose another year," said the mayor.
The rector praised the understanding. "We are doing something fundamental, which is removing obstacles. Our intention is to start offering 400 places in Camaçari as early as 2018.1, which will mean 2.000 students over the years." The City of Knowledge has the capacity to support two intakes of 400 students each, as a temporary campus.
Entry to the university will be through the Interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree in Science and Technology, which is the first cycle, after which students can choose one of five engineering programs that will follow after three years. The planned programs are in energy, materials, electrical, oil and gas, and automotive engineering.
Approximately R$ 25 million will be invested in the campus's construction. With roughly 100 square meters of built area, the planned structure includes four architectural complexes: one with a university restaurant; a block divided into three buildings housing undergraduate and computer labs, an auditorium, and classrooms; and a third block containing classrooms for undergraduate students, a library, and part of an auditorium.
The building will consist of houses housing the administrative, technical, and operational areas, as well as the faculty offices, departments, research groups, and faculty lounges, all contributing to the daily activities of the campus.
