247 - Cacique Chá restaurant, the most traditional in the capital of Sergipe for the last 50 years, will reopen on March 17th, Aracaju's anniversary. The resumption of activities will be carried out by the Fecomércio/Sesc/Senac system of Sergipe.

The restaurant will function as a unit of the Senac culinary school, where students from the culinary, waiter/waitress, and tourism training courses will work in a space that combines the pleasure of socializing with cultural enrichment.

The new Cacique Chá restaurant will house the Jenner Augusto Memorial, honoring the most prominent artist in the contemporary history of Sergipe. The art gallery to be set up in the restaurant will display several of Jenner's works, curated by Mário Brito, one of Brazil's leading art experts and a collector of the artist's works.

The resolution establishing the Jenner Augusto Memorial was signed by the Senac board members, led by Laércio Oliveira, president of the Fecomércio/Sesc/Senac system. The signing ceremony also set March 17th, the 160th anniversary of Aracaju, as the date for the memorial's launch.

“We are living through a historic moment. Returning a fully renovated Cacique Chá to the people of Aracaju, with the structure of a high-end gastronomic restaurant and state-of-the-art equipment to honor the memory of this great artist, on the city's anniversary, is a major milestone for the people of Aracaju, who lived and feel the atmosphere of peace, beauty, and historical memory that the mythical restaurant holds. Delivering it with this Jenner memorial is even more gratifying, as he was the greatest name in Sergipe art and remains alive in his works. With the memorial, we will ensure that Jenner Augusto is perpetuated in the memory of the people of Aracaju,” highlighted Laércio.

At the reopening of Cacique Chá, a book will also be launched that will tell the story of the restaurant. The revitalization of the building was carried out by the state government (see here).
