Bahia 247 - With military honors and a civic parade, the municipality of Cachoeira, in the Recôncavo region of Bahia, became the seat of the state government on Saturday (25), for the 9th consecutive year. The transfer ceremony was led by the vice-governor, João Leão (PP). After reviewing the troops in Praça da Aclamação, Leão presided over the ceremony.
"This act is one of the most important things in Bahia, which is a cradle of traditions. And Cachoeira is one of the cities that stands out in first place. We feel very honored to be here doing this work, carrying forward these traditions so that this continues," said the vice-governor, who also participated in the Grand Session at the City Council.
In Cachoeira, on June 25, 1822, the Cry of Ipiranga was anticipated, which resulted in the liberation of Bahia from Portuguese rule on July 2 of the following year.
Dressed especially for the occasion, many children attended the ceremony in front of the City Hall. Among them was Gabriel Souza, 13 years old. "Those who come here [to participate in the events on June 25th] absorb more knowledge to teach future generations." As usual, the hymn to July 2nd was performed by the Bahia Military Police Band.
Services to the population
Following the example of the Te Deum, a religious service in memory of those who fought for independence, at the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Parish, the mobile unit of the Citizen Service Center (SAC) is present in the municipality every year to issue documents to residents of the region, such as ID cards, CPF (Brazilian tax identification number), Criminal Record Certificates, and re-registration of pensioners and retirees. According to the coordinator of the itinerant service, Neide Barreto, "people already expect the SAC Mobile to appear on this date, usually June 25th, the city's anniversary."
Business administrator Moisés Pinheiro brought his 7-year-old son, Bruno, to get his first identity card. He praised the speed of the document's issuance. "This service at the SAC (Citizen Service Center) is always very useful. We receive the document immediately. To get a document in the city today would take several days to receive."
