A fight between a city councilwoman from the MBL (Free Brazil Movement) and rapper Oruam ends with a police report being filed.
The case involves an exchange of accusations and online threats following the introduction of a controversial bill.
247 - A dispute between São Paulo city councilwoman and coordinator of the Free Brazil Movement (MBL), Amanda Vettorazzo (União), and rapper MC Oruam culminated in the filing of a police report against the artist, this Thursday (23). The case involves an exchange of accusations and virtual threats, after the presentation of a controversial bill. The information is from Metropolises.
According to the councilwoman, she became the target of threats on social media after filing a bill that aims to prohibit the hiring, by the public sector, of artists who promote organized crime. In a video, Amanda stated that she "wants to prohibit Oruam from performing shows in São Paulo" and criticized the influence of his lyrics in normalizing crime.
The video was shared by MC Oruam on his social media, where the singer called on his fans to "take down" the councilwoman's profile. In his response, Oruam, son of Marcinho VP – leader of the Comando Vermelho criminal faction – stated: "You mentally ill person, we sing about what we live, you idiot. When it's a rich kid singing, nobody says anything."
Reaction on social media and legal measures
After the post was published, the councilwoman's profile was flooded with hate messages and threats from the rapper's fans. In response to the backlash, Amanda filed a police report at the 1st Police District of the Civil Police of São Paulo, accusing Oruam of slander, defamation, and incitement to crime.
The councilwoman argues that the bill, in addition to barring the hiring of artists who glorify crime, seeks to combat the public funding of any expression that glorifies drug trafficking or leaders of criminal organizations. In her words, "Oruam opened the floodgates for rappers and funk artists to start producing songs that idolize criminals and gang leaders, using slang to normalize the world of crime in our culture."
