By Andreia Verdélio/Agência Brasil - Brazilians living outside the country have until today (28) to report their situation to the Federal Revenue Service. The Communication of Definitive Departure from the Country must be submitted by taxpayers who, in 2017, permanently left Brazil and for those who, even temporarily, have been absent for at least 12 consecutive months.
Communication is necessary for filing the Annual Income Tax Return for Individuals.
If the departure was permanent, the deadline for submitting the notification to the tax authorities begins on the date the taxpayer left the country. In the case of temporary departure, the notification must be made starting the day after one year of absence has been completed, at which point the taxpayer becomes a non-resident.
Guidelines regarding the Notification of Permanent Departure from the Country are available at website of the IRS.
