PARIS (Reuters) - Czech player Tomas Berdych, the fourth seed, opened his way to the second round of the French Open by defeating Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-0, 7-5, 6-3 on Monday, as did Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci.
Berdych, one of the top four seeds in a Grand Slam for the first time, warmed up for Roland Garros by reaching at least the quarterfinals in the Masters 1.000 tournaments in Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome.
The tennis player will now face compatriot Radek Stepanek, who eliminated Croatian Ivan Dodig.
