Bank employees went on strike this Thursday, and several banks in the capital city remained closed. There is no forecast for when work will resume. The category is demanding a salary readjustment of 11,93%, which corresponds to the inflation of the last 12 months plus a real gain of 5%, in addition to improvements in Profit Sharing and Results (PLR) and an increase in the minimum wage – from the current R$ 1.519,00 to R$ 2.860,21.
Goiás 247_ Bank workers in Goiás have also been on strike since Thursday morning (19) and are following the national strike that has taken over several cities in the country. The strike is for an indefinite period and according to the Bank Workers Union in the State of Goiás, the participation - in practice - should be 100%, which includes private, public and mixed institutions, as there is a notorious dissatisfaction among bank workers who complain about the salary, the intense and exhausting workload and the lack of employees.

The National Federation of Banks (Febraban) offered a 6,1% raise, far below what the category is asking for: 11,93%, which includes inflation calculations of around 6% and 5% for productivity. The call for a general strike came from the National Command of bank workers, and the Bank Workers' Union in the State of Goiás admits that the movement will harm the population, but says it sees no other way to have its demands met.
By law, in the case of categories that offer essential services, 30% of the workforce must continue working, which will not happen in the case of the bank strike. José explains that the only essential service provided by banks is bank clearing, which is now done electronically.
