Bahia leads bid for solar energy auction.

Brazil will hold its first public energy auction including solar power on November 18th. There are 119 projects distributed across nine states, including 109 photovoltaic projects (using solar panels to generate electricity) and 10 solar thermal projects (using solar thermal energy to generate electricity). The state with the most wind power projects is Bahia, with 199 projects totaling 4.728 MW.

Rio de Janeiro – Brazil will hold its first public energy auction with the participation of solar sources on November 18th. There are 119 projects, distributed across nine states, including 109 photovoltaic projects, for the production of electricity using solar panels, and 10 solar thermal projects, which harness the thermal energy of sunlight to produce electricity.

The total reaches 2.729 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic and 290 MW of solar thermal. The auction is of type A3, which provides for the delivery of energy within three years after the offer. The data was released today (5) by the Energy Research Company (EPE).

The largest number of projects offered is in Bahia, with 72 photovoltaic projects, totaling 1.754 MW, and eight solar thermal projects, with 240 MW. In second place is Minas Gerais, with 11 photovoltaic projects, corresponding to 325 MW. Following closely is Paraíba, with nine photovoltaic projects (254 MW) and two solar thermal projects (50 MW).

In addition to solar sources, the auction will also receive bids from other energy sources, totaling 784 projects, corresponding to 19.413 MW. Wind energy, which harnesses the power of the wind to generate electricity, stands out with 629 projects and 15.042 MW.

The state with the largest number of wind power projects is Bahia, with 199 projects totaling 4.728 MW; followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with 170 projects and 3.837 MW; Rio Grande do Norte (119 projects and 2.820 MW); Ceará (66 projects and 1.539 MW); and Piauí (40 projects and 1.131 MW). Four other states will offer wind power projects, but with smaller capacities.

Also participating in the auction are 15 biomass-fired power plants, totaling 504 MW, most of which are in São Paulo, with 10 projects offering 346 MW. There will also be offerings for two natural gas-fired power plants (469 MW), 16 small hydroelectric plants (PCHs) (295 MW), one hydroelectric plant (45 MW), and two biogas-fired power plants (39 MW). Further information can be found on the EPE website (www.epe.gov.br).
