Bahia has already recorded 64 bank robberies in 2013.

The state ranks fifth in the number of explosions and break-ins at bank branches and ATMs; of the total, only 12 were in Salvador; the other 52 incidents were recorded in various cities in the interior; the largest number of attacks were against Banco do Brasil branches, with 30 incidents recorded.

A survey by the Bahia Bank Workers Union found 64 attacks on banks and ATMs in Bahia in just the first four months of this year. Of the total, 52 incidents were recorded in inland cities. The other 12 occurred in Salvador. Explosions and robberies lead the ranking with 29 and 15 incidents, respectively.

Next come break-ins with 13 occurrences, in addition to seven thwarted attempts. In 2012, 167 incidents were recorded, including robberies, explosions, and break-ins at ATMs.

The data was recently released through the 4th National Survey of Bank Attacks, prepared by the National Confederation of Security Guards (CNTV) and the National Confederation of Workers in the Financial Sector (Contraf-CUT), with technical support from the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese).

In the research, Bahia appears in fifth place in relation to the number of occurrences. The state is behind only São Paulo, which leads the ranking with 492 cases, Minas Gerais, which occupies second place (301 occurrences), Paraná (214) and Mato Grosso (185).
