The Government of Bahia presented this Tuesday (11) the security scheme set up for the FIFA Confederations Cup, which starts on the 15th, with an estimated cost of approximately R$ 93,3 million, of which R$ 43,3 million are from the Union and R$ 50 million from the State.

As Governor Jaques Wagner (PT) had already announced, this year's project will serve as a pilot for the 2014 World Cup, an event for which investments are expected to rise to around R$ 180 million.

Among the plan's new features is a real-time monitoring system with 215 cameras spread around the Arena Fonte Nova, connected to an intelligence center. Another new feature is the acquisition of a bomb disposal kit, consisting of a robot, portable X-ray machine, containment tent, protective clothing, and toxic gas detector.

According to the Public Security Secretariat of the State of Bahia, more than 4 professionals will be on duty during the tournament, which will feature three matches in the state capital.

"This is certainly an investment that will leave a legacy, because if it weren't for the major events, we would have a certain time limitation to invest this sum in security. So, this will remain as a benefit for the city of Salvador and for the entire state of Bahia," says the Secretary of Public Security of Bahia (SSP), Maurício Barbosa.

According to him, four thousand professionals in the field will be employed in the tournament, of which 2.305 are military police officers, who will be on the streets of Salvador, 695 are military firefighters, 250 are civil police officers, and 60 are agents from the Department of Technical Police (DPT).

The helicopters that will carry out aerial policing will be equipped with special cameras that will help in identifying suspects and disturbances.
