Avaí and Atlético-GO draw 2-2 at Ressacada.
The Goiás club managed to turn the game around, but the Santa Catarina team equalized with a penalty in the 45th minute of the second half.
With a goal in the 45th minute of the second half, Avaí snatched a 2-2 draw against Atlético-GO this Wednesday at the Ressacada Stadium in Florianópolis, for the 29th round of the Brasileirão. The Santa Catarina team took the lead, but conceded two goals and needed two penalty kicks to equalize and avoid defeat.
The draw left Avaí with 26 points, still in 19th place, within the relegation zone. Atlético, in turn, reached 39 points, in 12th place. In the next round, the Santa Catarina team will try to recover against Internacional, on Sunday, at Beira-Rio. The Goiás team will host São Paulo on the same day.
Strong marking prevailed in the opening minutes of a game that was concentrated in midfield. Avaí took 13 minutes to reach the opponent's penalty area, with their initiatives always focused on the individual skill of their main player, midfielder Lincoln.
And it was with him that the play that led to the first goal of the game was born, at 18 minutes. The midfielder provided a backheel assist for Daniel to set up striker William who, in front of the goal, opened the scoring. Noticing how easily Avaí was advancing down the right flank, coach Hélio dos Anjos substituted Marino for Agenor.
The Goiânia team balanced the game and, more efficient in their plays, equalized in the 35th minute through Anselmo, with a shot in the center of the goal, concluding a well-worked play at the edge of the area. Better structured on the field, Atlético took the lead in the 41st minute with a fantastic goal. Vítor Júnior dribbled past four defenders and goalkeeper Felipe before pushing the ball into the back of the net.
Atlético started the final stage pressuring Avaí. They frequently put pressure on the Santa Catarina defense, which struggled to avoid a greater disadvantage. Gradually, Avaí balanced the game, applying some pressure, mainly from set pieces. And, in an isolated attack at 29 minutes, with an attempted shot by William, defender Agenor stopped the play inside the area with a handball that resulted in his expulsion.
William's penalty kick, which would have been a lifeline in regaining the lead, was thwarted by a save from goalkeeper Márcio. The final minutes of the game were filled with complete desperation from Avaí, despite having an extra player on the field. They persisted with long-range shots that went astray until midfielder Cleverson was brought down in the area, resulting in another penalty. William redeemed himself with a powerful shot in the 45th minute.
