Brasilia - Brazilian activist Ana Paula Maciel, who was imprisoned in Russia for about two months, obtained today (27) an exit visa from the country and will be able to return to Brazil. According to the non-governmental organization (NGO) Greenpeace, the other 25 members of the group, of other nationalities, who were also detained, received authorization from the Russian Federal Immigration Service to leave the country.
In early October, the 30 crew members of the environmentalist vessel were accused of piracy for attempting to board a Russian company's oil platform near the Arctic, in protest against gas exploration in the region. Later, the charge was changed to vandalism. At the end of November, with the expiration of the pre-trial detention order issued by the court, the activists were released on bail.
According to Greenpeace, so far, seven have already left Russia and the rest should leave this weekend. Ana Paula is leaving today for Brazil. She is going to Porto Alegre, where she will spend New Year's Eve with her family. The Brazilian's arrival in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul is scheduled for 11 am tomorrow (28), at Salgado Filho International Airport.
