Tocantins 247 - Senator Ataídes Oliveira (Pros), candidate for governor for the "Reage Tocantins" coalition, filed a legal representation seeking the opening of an Electoral Judicial Investigation into the arrest of four people and the seizure of an airplane with R$ 504 in cash and campaign material for gubernatorial candidate Marcelo Miranda (PMDB) and federal deputy candidate Carlos Gaguim (PMDB), both from the "Experience Makes the Change" coalition.
According to the coalition, the measure aims to investigate the misuse and abuse of economic and political power to harm candidates, coalitions, and individuals involved in or related to the Goiás Civil Police operation.
According to Ataídes, letting a scandal of this magnitude go unpunished is disrespectful to the voter and disregards the seriousness of the electoral process. "The people of Tocantins urgently need an answer regarding this case, and those involved need to be held accountable according to electoral law, to ensure the integrity and proper conduct of the upcoming elections," he stated.
The "Reage Tocantins" coalition will request a court order to freeze the seized funds and bank accounts that received the transfers reported in the press, as well as to lift the telephone and banking secrecy of those involved.
If the Electoral Judicial Investigation action is successful, it will result in the declaration of ineligibility of all those who contributed to the commission of the illegal acts, with regard to elections held in the following eight years, and, if elected, in the annulment of their respective registrations and diplomas.
