Tocantins 247 - The Federation of Public Servants' Unions of Tocantins (Fesserto) conducted a survey that identified the fifth consecutive increase this year in the state government's own tax revenue compared to the same period last year. According to the organization, in May of this year, the two main taxes - the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) and the Tax on Motor Vehicle Ownership (IPVA) - collected R$ 221,7 million compared to R$ 194,9 million in the same month last year. The increase was R$ 26,8 million, a growth of 13,75%.

“Thanks to the excellent work of the tax authorities, the government continues to collect more and exceed all targets, even with a large part of the auditors' work structure being dilapidated. However, while the civil servants are doing their part, the State is not doing its part. It owes retroactive payments for the 2015 base date for civil servants and this year's base date, which should have been added to the May payroll,” said the president of Fesserto, Carlos Augusto Melo de Oliveira, recalling that the base date is not a readjustment, but rather an inflationary adjustment as stipulated by law.

In the accumulated period from January to May, the state collected R$ 992,5 million in ICMS (Value-Added Tax) and IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax), compared to R$ 858,5 million in the same period last year, according to the federation. The percentage increase is 15,6%, well above the rate calculated for the base date of 2016, which is 9,83%.

"From its own taxes alone, the State collected R$ 133,9 million more in the first five months of this year than in the same period last year. Public servants did their part, and it's time for the State to comply with state law and pay what it owes," emphasized Carlos Augusto.

Fesserto is one of the entities that make up the Movement for the Union of Civil and Military Servants of Tocantins.
