ASN - The June festivities will be celebrated by the State Government in a festive atmosphere alluding to the World Cup being held in Brazil. From June 17th to 29th, the Atalaia Events Square will host another "Arraiá do Povo" (People's Festival) with artistic performances, folkloric groups, quadrille dances, and fife bands. With the motto "Sergipe, Football and Passion – Champion Forró," the festivities will feature a genuinely Sergipe-style program. The event was officially opened on Tuesday evening, the 17th.

According to the Secretary of State for Culture, Eloísa Galdino, who represented the governor on opening night, the festival will once again seek to revive authentic rhythms and traditions for the people of Sergipe and visitors who were at Orla da Atalaia.

"The Arraiá do Povo is the way the Government of Sergipe, through an initiative of Governor Jackson Barreto, brings to this tourist hotspot the most authentic aspects of the region, such as traditional forró trios, quadrilha dance groups, fife bands, and folkloric groups from the June festivities. All of this demonstrates the government's commitment to the June festivities and the World Cup, which, God willing, will see the Brazilian national team advance in the pursuit of this achievement for Brazilians, a feat we will celebrate by highlighting Sergipe's culture and the June festivities," explained Secretary Eloísa Galdino, adding that the 13-day festival, which always starts at 20 pm, will feature 110 genuinely Sergipe attractions.

Economic Movement

According to the Secretary of State for Tourism, José Roberto Lima, who was also present at the opening night, the State Government's initiative, in addition to offering another option for the people of Sergipe and tourists, who generate an occupancy rate of between 75 and 85% in the hotel network during this period, also generates economic activity in various production chains linked to the festivities.

"We generate demand for the traditional 'pé-de-serra' trios, boosting the musicians, the typical clothing segment for the festivities, from the trade of fabrics and accessories to seamstresses, the artisans who work with themed decorations for the period, the cooks and confectioners involved with the June cuisine, among other professionals in the tourism economic chain that is interconnected with São João. This is a special moment for tourism and for the economy of Sergipe," emphasized the secretary.

The Arraiá do Povo festival is organized through the State Secretariats of Culture (Secult) and Social Communication (Secom), with sponsorship from the Banese Institute, Torre, and Petrobras, and support from NET, Sebrae, and Banco do Nordeste (BNB).

The opening night of the festival was attended by the president of the Bank of the State of Sergipe (Banese), Fernando Mota, the deputy secretary of Communication, José Sales Neto, the president of the State Health Foundation (FES), Hamilton Santana, among other members of the state administration and directors of public bodies.

The program for the first night featured performances by the Quadrilha Mirim Sanfona Branca (children's square dance group), the Trio Ingazeira da Ponta da Serra (Poço Verde-SE) fife band, Trio Bem Te Vi, Nino Karvan, Edgard do Acordeon, and Gilvan Lima.
