Armando: Campos' speech is a marketing ploy.
Senator Armando Monteiro (PTB), pre-candidate for governor of Pernambuco in the October election, labeled the main point of Pernambuco Governor Eduardo Campos's political speech about "new politics" as a piece of "marketing"; "This thing about new politics seems to me more like a slogan, a marketing reference," he stated; According to the parliamentarian, Campos's "new politics" speech was taken from the title of a work written by former president Getúlio Vargas in 1938.
Mariana Almeida, from Pernambuco 247- Senator Armando Monteiro (PTB), pre-candidate for governor of Pernambuco in the October election, labeled the main point of Pernambuco Governor Eduardo Campos' political discourse regarding "new politics" as a piece of "marketing." "This thing about new politics seems to me more like a slogan, a marketing reference," stated the parliamentarian, who also defended the choice of a political figure to succeed Campos' administration.
“I think that what fundamentally exists is good politics, meaning good political practices. That is, what effectively promotes the public interest, what ensures the republican character of policies,” declared Armando, during an interview with Rádio Jornal, this Thursday (16). “It is politics for the whole of society and not for groups, which cannot condone clientelism, patrimonialism,” he said.
According to Armando, Campos's "new politics" speech is reminiscent of the era of former president Getúlio Vargas, who used the term in 1938. "Getúlio compiled his speeches into a book in 1938. The name of this collection is 'New Politics,' referring to that time of the Old Republic. So, this 'new politics' thing seems to me to be a marketing reference," the senator stated.
The parliamentarian also defended the choice of a "political name" for the Palácio do Campo das Princesas (Governor's Palace) in the October elections. "In my view, what should be chosen is someone who has the capacity and a sense of direction, who knows where they are going. And that is fundamentally a political competence," Armando stated, referring to the possibility of competing for the governorship with a technocratic opponent launched by the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party).
