Demolition work to expand the stadium has already been completed. The Paraná stadium will host four matches valid for the 2014 World Cup.
World Cup Portal - Clube Atlético Paranaense announced this Monday (May 06.05th) that the Arena da Baixada, in Curitiba, has 62,30% of its renovation works completed. The new Brasílio Itiberê Sector is the area undergoing the most transformation. The space is receiving new stands, press boxes, suites and VIP areas.
Demolition work at the stadium is complete. The arena underwent demolition in several areas to expand the stadium and adapt it to FIFA standards. VIP boxes, press boxes, access stairs, ticket offices and moat, internal shops, changing rooms, gym and barbecue area were some of the spaces that underwent changes. The towers were also removed to eliminate all blind spots in the stadium.
Arena da Baixada is also undergoing construction of two new staircases in the Madre Maria sector, which will connect the lower stands to the upper stands (in the same style as the existing staircases). They are already 40% complete. Internal masonry work has also begun. The work is being done in the lower stands.
Lawn and roof
The stadium in Curitiba underwent the removal of existing earth for the construction of foundations and other structures. The pitch also received earthworks. The space will have elements such as drainage, heating, and irrigation rebuilt. In addition, the field was prepared to receive the scaffolding that will assemble the stadium's roof. There will be 19 towers on each side, 11 inside the field and 8 above the stands. Upon completion of the tower on the Getúlio Vargas side, the assembly of another on the Brasílio Itiberê side will begin.
Four games
In the 2014 World Cup there will be four matches, all valid for the first phase of the competition. The one that promises the greatest visibility is scheduled for Monday, June 23rd, with the presence of the top seed team from Group B against team B4. The other three duels will be between the teams drawn as F3 and F4, on Monday, June 16th, E2 and E4, on Friday, June 20th, and H2 and H3, on Thursday, June 26th.
The stadium will have a capacity of 41 spectators, with an investment of R$ 234 million, of which R$ 131 million is from federal funding. The expected completion date is December 2013.
