Arena da Amazônia gains metal parts.

World Cup Portal - Welding of the first pieces of the metal roof for the Arena da Amazônia in Manaus began this week. Initially, the structures will be assembled on the ground and then lifted and fixed to the concrete bases, forming the facade and roof of the stadium. Each module to be lifted is X-shaped and weighs up to 70 tons.

According to the coordinator of the World Cup Project Management Unit (UGP COPA), Miguel Capobiango Neto, the first modules of the roof are expected to be lifted next Monday (June 10.06th). "The whole process is complex, as the structures are large and heavy and need to be meticulously assembled and welded before being fixed. When they begin to be lifted, they will take the shape of the architectural design, which is inspired by a straw basket," explained the coordinator. He also stated that the ship carrying the second shipment of pieces is expected to leave Portugal by the end of next week.

The facade and roof of the Arena da Amazônia are composed of a single metal structure with a design similar to the weave of an indigenous straw basket. The total weight of the entire metal structure is approximately 6,67 tons. Currently, the Arena da Amazônia is 62% complete.

Hillside Stadium

At the new Colina Stadium, the likely Official Training Ground (OTC) being built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, construction continues with the pouring of concrete for the first stands and the continuation of foundation work. The assembly of the steps for stand D, located to the left of the entrance gate, began this week. The demolition of what remained of the old stadium has already been completed.

The work is 11% complete. Currently, around 100 workers are on the construction site. The new stadium will have a capacity of 10,4 spectators and will include a press room, locker rooms, a gym, and a medical area, as well as snack bars, bars, and restrooms designed for public use.

The construction of the Colina Stadium is budgeted at R$ 21 million, with investment from the Ministry of Tourism and a matching contribution from the Government of Amazonas. The stadium will be delivered in December of this year.
