Tocantins 247 - In addition to the R$ 453 million operation for various projects in the state, state deputies authorized the state government on Wednesday (13) to take out a loan of R$ 130 million from Caixa Econômica Federal for the construction of the new bridge over the Tocantins River, in Porto Nacional. The approval will have to be sanctioned by the Union. The Federal government must also express its approval for the loan, which will be paid over a period of 20 years.

The new bridge will be 1.488 meters long, with a 1.088-meter span and a 400-meter embankment. Construction is expected to begin after the fundraising process is complete. The old bridge is only 900 meters long and connects traffic from TO-050, via the TO-255 interchange, to TO-070, which leads to BR-153.

The structure was built between 1976 and 1979. According to the Infrastructure Secretariat, structural damage has limited heavy traffic, and currently vehicles exceeding 30 tons in weight are prohibited from using the structure.

The project was tendered in 2014 by the Tocantins Agency for Transport and Public Works (Ageto). The winning company was Rivoli SA. The deadline for completion of the bridge is 900 days from the start of construction.
