After negotiations, the mutiny at the UIM ends.

Alagoas247 – After a morning of chaos, the Military Police and monitors from the State Center for Socio-Educational Services (Neas) managed to control the riot that was started by teenagers at the Juvenile Detention Unit, located in the Tabuleiro do Martins neighborhood, in Maceió. According to the Military Police, there was a conversation with the minors, who temporarily agreed to return to their dormitories. 

According to information from the State Secretariat for the Promotion of Peace (Sepaz), the disturbance began after an escape plan was thwarted by the monitors. In the early morning, three minors attempted to escape; later that morning, two more tried to jump over the walls but were unsuccessful. The remaining minors became enraged by the isolation of the five children and decided to rebel.

According to family members waiting for information outside, two dormitories were destroyed by the rebellious minors. Several cells were ransacked and some even broken into, at least according to the Sepaz press office.

 This morning, some teenagers climbed onto the wall and made threats by throwing stones outside. Light fixtures were broken. 

Military personnel from the Guard Police Battalion (BPGd) and the Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope) remained in front of the UIM, but were not authorized to act, since, according to Sepaz, the situation did not get out of control. 

According to the press office, new furniture and personal items were purchased a week ago and are already available to the inmates.

Minors are unable to escape and riot.

The atmosphere is still tense and smoke could even be seen from inside the place.

According to the secretariat, the disturbance began after some minors from two dormitories attempted to escape, but the plan was thwarted by the monitors. The remaining children became enraged by the frustration and decided to rebel.

Representatives from the Juvenile Court, the State Secretariat for Peace and Security (Sepaz), as well as military personnel from the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) and the Fire Department entered the unit in an attempt to quell the riot.
