After heavy rains, Ufal suffers losses of R$ 2 million.
The Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal) estimates losses of R$ 2 million due to burned and damaged equipment – not to mention losses in research – caused by the heavy rains that hit Maceió this week; the campus is without network, internet, and regular telephone service.
Alagoas247 - The Information Technology Center (NTI) of the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal) estimates a loss of R$ 2 million due to equipment burned and damaged as a result of the rains that fell in Maceió this week. Next Wednesday (25), the NTI will present a report indicating the exact size of the loss.
According to the director of NTI, Alan Pedro da Silva, given the situation encountered, a task force with three teams was formed to assess the damage throughout the AC Campus. The initial assessment estimated losses in the order of R$ 1 million, but the damage could reach up to R$ 2 million, since there are several independent buildings and structures.
"One hundred wireless network transmission radios were damaged, representing a loss of 300 reais. In the laboratories of the health area block, the loss reaches 200 reais. We expect to complete the official report to have an exact idea of the damage caused," announced Pedro.
According to the Ufal press office, in addition to the damaged equipment, the AC Simões Campus is without network, internet, and regular telephone service. The press office also highlighted that the losses to research could be much greater than estimated.
“We are committed to resolving everything as quickly as possible so as not to further hinder the progress of our operations. The problem occurred during Carnival, and the overload on the electrical grid even affected locations with generators and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS),” added the director of the Nucleus.
