Alongside the PMDB, Caiado flirts with the unpredictable.
By allying himself with a historical adversary at the regional level, the Democratic congressman risks fragmenting his electorate, as well as losing the support of leaders from his own party who advocate alignment with Governor Marconi Perillo's PSDB; Caiado will also have to manage the discomfort of being associated with a party that supports, at the national level, the PT and the re-election of President Dilma Rousseff, targets of the fervent opposition of the Minority Leader.
Goiás247 - Federal deputy Ronaldo Caiado (DEM) will be announced today as the Senate candidate on the PMDB ticket headed by Iris Rezende. The union, which until recently seemed impossible, materialized due to the difficulty of fitting the Democrat into the allied base's ticket, formed by José Eliton (PP) as vice-president and Vilmar Rocha (PSD) for the Senate, with Marconi Perillo at the head (PSDB).
While Caiado opens up the possibility of attracting a new electorate, on the other hand he sees the DEM leadership loyal to Marconi Perillo and willing to abandon him. The congressman demonstrates blind faith in his electorate to the point of risking losing important bases by allying himself with Iris.
Mayors and state representatives from the DEM party will be supporting Marconi. State representative Helio de Sousa is one who will remain loyal to Governor Marconi Perillo and is unlikely to share a platform with Caiado and Iris.
In an interview with the column Giro, the state president of the PSDB party, Paulo de Jesus, says that Caiado may lose votes within his allied base. “I believe that Caiado will lose many votes in our base, who will not understand his alliance with the PMDB, our biggest adversary. This will favor Vilmar Rocha's candidacy for the Senate.”
Caiado will still have to manage the discomfort of being associated with the PMDB, which is allied with President Dilma Rousseff's PT. This awkwardness is mitigated by the fact that the PMDB members in Goiás have somewhat broken with the PT because the party nominated Antônio Gomide for governor. This means that the PMDB does not need to offer a platform to Dilma in the first round.
