Bahia 247 - State Representative Ângelo Coronel (PSD) was elected president of the Legislative Assembly of Bahia (ALBA) on Wednesday night (1st) with 57 votes out of 63 parliamentarians. Four representatives cast null votes, one blank vote, and there was one abstention, by Paulo Câmera (PDT), who is undergoing medical treatment. The vote was symbolic, because Coronel was a candidate on a single slate.
In his inaugural address, the new president of the state legislature thanked "each of his supporters, especially Senator Otto Alencar," president of the PSD in Bahia, "a leader, friend, and close associate." Coronel pledged to "work for a united, respected, and independent parliament."
Ângelo Coronel congratulated his predecessor as president, Deputy Marcelo Nilo (PSL), and also thanked the mayor ACM Neto (DEM), the vice-governor João Leão (PP), and the "magistrate-like posture of Governor Rui Costa (PT) and Jaques Wagner," the State Secretary of Economic Planning.
The new president of ALBA promised "not to disappoint" his supporters and "to make this a House of equals."
The new Board of Directors of the Assembly is composed, in addition to Coronel, from the first to the fourth vice-presidency by deputies Luís Augusto (PP) – who gave up fighting for the presidency to support him –, Carlos Geílson (PSDB), Alex Lima (PTN) and Manassés (PSL).
The first secretary position went to Sandro Régis (DEM), the second to Aderbal Caldas (PP), the third to Fabrício Falcão (PC do B), and the fourth to Luciano Simões Filho (PMDB).
The five alternate positions were filled by deputies Augusto Castro (PSDB), Heber Santana (PSC), Carlos Ubaldino and Ivana Bastos (PSD), and Fabíola Mansur (PSB). These last two were added after Fabíola complained, as there were no women on the original list. Deputies Antônio Henrique (PP) and Alan Castro (PSL) gave up their seats.
