André: João Alves is 'playing games'

The state president of the PSC, federal deputy André Moura, stated this Thursday (23) that Mayor João Alves Filho (DEM) is “playing games” when he says he has not yet made a final decision on whether he will run for reelection next year; “This could be marketing or anything else, but not indecision. João is a strong candidate for reelection,” he said; the parliamentarian reiterated that his group will not support the mayor of the capital in the 2016 election if José Carlos Machado (PSDB) is kept as vice-mayor; “I respect and admire Machado. He has been a great partner of João. If João wants to keep him as vice-mayor, he will go without our support,” he warned.

Sergipe 247 - The state president of the PSC, federal deputy André Moura, stated this Thursday (23) that Mayor João Alves Filho (DEM) is “playing games” when he says he has not yet made a final decision on whether he will run for reelection next year. “This could be marketing or anything else, but it’s not indecision. João is a strong candidate for reelection,” he said. The parliamentarian reiterated that his group will not support the capital’s mayor in the 2016 election if José Carlos Machado (PSDB) remains as vice-mayor. “I respect and admire Machado. He has been a great partner of João. If João wants to keep him as vice-mayor, he will go without our support,” he warned.

“It seems like we're asking for a favor to support João's candidacy. First, he hasn't announced it yet, but we know he's a candidate. He's playing this game of not announcing it. This could be marketing or anything else, but it's not indecision. João is a very strong candidate for re-election. At no point, as the state president of the PSC and a member of the largest opposition group in the state, have we asked for, nor have we decided whether to support, João. It seems, based on his interview, that we're asking him to support us, but quite the contrary. There is no decision by the group to support João. Quite the opposite. Today there are leaders in the group who are totally opposed to supporting João,” stated André Moura, in an interview with Ilha FM radio.

André Moura justified his decision by stating that his group has no choice but to launch its own candidacy or occupy a space on the main ticket. “There’s no way the largest opposition group in Sergipe, which includes Senator Eduardo Amorim, who received 43% of the vote as a gubernatorial candidate, can support another candidate without being part of the main ticket if it doesn’t have its own mayoral candidate. Every election is a struggle for space and power. This is practiced in all parties. We cannot discuss the possibility of supporting another candidacy if we don’t have our own candidate, if we don’t have the right to nominate the vice-mayor,” he reiterated.

PSDB

When questioned about the change in leadership within the PSDB party, André provoked Machado by reminding him that he was placed in charge of the party in the state at the same time that former governor Albano Franco was removed from office.

“The PSDB situation is a closed chapter. Machado has a history, as Albano did, and a point was reached where the National Directorate understood that it should bring in a new figure like Machado. Albano's history was stronger and more important, as he was governor. Even so, there was a change. It's natural. And now the moment has come when Machado contributed and can continue contributing, and the time had come to have another leader, with Senator Eduardo Amorim at the helm. The change has been made, there is a new president. It will grow as much as it has grown. Albano took the leadership, gave it to Machado, took it from him and gave it to Amorim. Natural,” he stated.

The state president of the PSC party, federal deputy André Moura, stated yesterday that Mayor João Alves Filho (DEM) is "playing games" when he says he hasn't yet made a final decision on whether he will run for reelection next year. "This could be marketing or anything else, but it's not indecision. João is a very strong candidate for reelection," he affirmed. The congressman reiterated that his group will not support the mayor of the capital in the 2016 election if José Carlos Machado (PSDB) remains as his running mate. "I respect and admire Machado. He has been a great partner of João's. If João wants to keep him as his running mate, he will do so without our support," he warned.
