247 - MMA fighter Anderson Silva, who fractured his left leg during a fight last weekend, will leave the hospital in Las Vegas on Tuesday (31) where he underwent surgery in the early hours of Sunday. The Brazilian suffered a fracture when attempting a low kick, one of his main strikes, on the leg of American Chris Weidman, from whom he was trying to regain the UFC middleweight belt.
Anderson will have to travel to Hermosa Beach, where he currently lives with his family, by bus, as a plane trip could harm him due to the pressure inside the aircraft. After undergoing surgery to repair a leg fracture, he is already thinking about returning to the UFC. Steve Sanders, who performed the surgery, said that the first thing the Brazilian asked was when he could fight again.
When questioned about the matter, Sanders replied: "If I had to guess, the fracture recovery would take between three and six months. To return to training, it would take six to nine months." The doctor also said that, from an orthopedic point of view, Anderson will have no problems returning to fighting.
The surgery lasted about an hour. A titanium rod was placed in the fighter's tibia, and he will remain in the hospital for a few more days, where his pain level and antibiotics will be monitored. The Brazilian is walking with crutches and will be able to put weight on the operated leg within a few weeks, depending on his comfort level. The doctor also said that there was no predisposition that led Anderson to break his leg the way he did and clarified that age had no influence on what happened.
On social media, Kalyl do Silva (15), one of Anderson's sons, asked him to quit the sport. "I hope he retires and comes home. Because I'm tired of my dad training every day and being away for 2 or 3 months," he wrote.
