Anastasia allocates R$ 117 million for mobility, culture, and leisure in Belo Horizonte.
Governor Antonio Anastasia highlights the Minas Gerais government's contributions to infrastructure projects and partnerships with the capital's city government; "We signed agreements with Mayor Marcio Lacerda to have some important projects here, because investments in the capital and the Metropolitan Region have repercussions throughout the State."
Minas Agency - The challenges faced by the capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, in the area of infrastructure are numerous, as are the investments that the Government of Minas Gerais has been making in the third largest Brazilian metropolis. Next Saturday (6), Governor Antonio Anastasia will sign a service order, together with the mayor of the capital, for the start of another project, this time a multi-purpose space in the municipal park. And it is not only this intervention that already has guaranteed resources. The State's investments in the capital of all Minas Gerais residents are the highlight of this week's Governor's Word.
"We have signed agreements with the Municipal Government of Belo Horizonte, the capital of our state, with Mayor Marcio Lacerda, to have some important projects here, because investments in the capital and the Metropolitan Region have repercussions throughout the state," says the governor.
The multipurpose space, for example, will host artistic, cultural, and folkloric events. A circular building will be constructed with materials that provide lightness and transparency. With a capacity to accommodate up to 3 people, it will have 3,2 square meters of built area, with a stage for shows and theatrical performances, an auditorium for 250 people, classrooms, a library with the collection of the Municipal Park, a snack bar, and a large open terrace.
"At the mayor's request, we are allocating R$ 15 million from the State to the Américo Renné Giannetti Municipal Park, in the center of our capital, to build a large multi-purpose space for art and culture to host major events. It is a very important investment that will certainly place Belo Horizonte on the circuit of great works of art and culture in our state. And there is also the revitalization of the Santa Tereza Viaduct, one of Belo Horizonte's landmarks, which will be revitalized for extreme sports. This is also a request from the city hall, and we are investing approximately R$ 5 million there," explains the governor.
The viaduct project includes the restoration of the structure and the original stone dust coating, which will be redone. Underneath the viaduct, between Rua da Bahia and Avenida dos Andradas, public facilities for leisure and sports will be installed, such as a skate park, a multi-sports court for basketball, an amphitheater, and a mini-bicycle circuit, in addition to multi-purpose rooms. A complete renovation of the sanitary facilities, revitalization of the staircase, and the installation of a Military Police post will also be carried out. The Santa Tereza Viaduct was built in 1929 and listed as a Cultural Heritage site of the capital in 1990.
Urban mobility
Works to improve urban mobility in the capital of Minas Gerais are also planned in the investments that the Government of Minas Gerais is allocating in partnership with the city hall, as Anastasia also points out.
"These are investments that will improve mobility in our capital. One example is the continuation of the covering of the Arrudas stream, the so-called Arrudas Boulevard, now in the stretch between the municipal park and the State Medical Specialties Center. A project worth R$ 80 million. Also in the Ribeiro de Abreu neighborhood, there is a planned bridge, costing R$ 35 million. Works on Cristiano Machado Avenue for the construction of an overpass at the intersection with Valdomiro Lobo Avenue – that's another R$ 30 million. And, in addition, an investment of more than R$ 12 million will go towards works on the so-called Via 710, at its intersection with Cristiano Machado Avenue," he highlights.
These investments will join several others already underway in Belo Horizonte, such as the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), buses that will circulate on exclusive express lanes, which also have resources from the Government of Minas Gerais and seek to improve the mobility of the people of Minas Gerais. These are works that will remain as a great legacy of the World Cup for the well-being of the population. All of these are important interventions that are positioning Minas Gerais as a reference among Brazilian states and an international highlight.
"The FIFA Secretary General himself, Jérôme Valcke, who was here, said that Belo Horizonte is the best-situated city among all the Brazilian capitals that will host the World Cup games. The partnership between the state government and the city hall has been working very well in Belo Horizonte. We allocated resources, the city hall carried out works, and therefore there is a very positive development of these projects in our state. I am sure that we will create a great picture in favor of Minas Gerais," concludes the governor.
