Federal Deputy Patrus Ananias (PT-MG) criticized PEC 241, which proposes limiting the increase in public spending in a given year to the inflation rate of the previous year for the next 20 years; according to the parliamentarian, "what the coup-plotting political faction is proposing now is to pave the way for the destruction of the entire Social Order enshrined in the Constitution, from article 193 to 232"; the congressman stated that "this Amendment is a crime against the nation, because it is part of the dismantling of policies that protect the poorest, as well as a policy of dismantling the Brazilian State."

Mines 247 - Federal Deputy Patrus Ananias (PT-MG) criticized Constitutional Amendment Proposal 241, which proposes limiting the increase in public spending in a given year to the inflation rate of the previous year for the next 20 years. The measure is defended by the Minister of Finance, Henrique Meirelles, and was announced by him on the first day of Michel Temer's interim government in May. According to the deputy, "what the coup-plotting political faction is proposing now is to pave the way for the destruction of the entire Social Order enshrined in the Constitution, from article 193 to 232. All these provisions will be directly challenged. And all the rights they established and/or inspired will be threatened if the proposal passes through Congress."

"Let no one doubt it, the coup plotters want to dismantle public social assistance policies, among others that benefited, especially during the Lula and Dilma governments, poor people, families, and communities. They want to end programs like Bolsa Família and the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC)," he declared. "This amendment is a crime against the nation because it is part of the dismantling of policies that protect the poorest, as well as a policy of dismantling the Brazilian state."

According to the parliamentarian, the measure demonstrates the objective of the "coup government," which is "to destroy the entire section of the Constitution that establishes the Social Order and comprises no less than seven chapters: Social Security (Health, Social Security and Social Assistance); Education, Culture and Sports; Science and Technology; Social Communication; Environment; Family, Children, Adolescents and the Elderly; and Indigenous Peoples."

"If this march toward Brazil's backwardness is not stopped, Amendment 241 will devastate the Constitution by suppressing rights, destroying social gains already achieved, making new social gains impossible, and strangling Brazil through a lack of public investment. It's a complete dismantling, right down to the wire," he criticized.
