Rio Grande do Sul 247 - Senator Ana Amélia (PP-RS) will be the vice-presidential candidate on Geraldo Alckmin's (PSDB) ticket. After being invited to the position, the senator announced her decision early Thursday evening, the 2nd.

Until the beginning of this week, Ana Amélia had ruled out being Alckmin's running mate, but now she says she is analyzing the relevance of the position. Ana Amélia's name is not a consensus within her party and also among centrist parties. Although Ciro Nogueira says there is no veto against the senator from Rio Grande do Sul, party members acknowledge the total lack of rapport between the senator and the party leadership.

One of the concerns of members of the PP party is that by bringing a party member into the Vice-Presidency, Alckmin may want to diminish the influence the PP currently holds in the Esplanade of Ministries.

Ana Amélia is a defender of conservatism and was criticized for congratulating rural landowners who attacked PT (Workers' Party) activists during former President Lula's caravan through the southern region in March of this year. "I want to congratulate Bagé, Santa Maria, Passo Fundo, São Borja. They chased away those people who went there bringing a convicted criminal complaining about democracy. Throwing eggs, raising the whip, shows where the people of Rio Grande do Sul are," she said.read more).
