Tocantins 247 - The mayor of Palmas, Carlos Amastha (PP), accompanied by his team and the directors of Foz|Saneatins, participated this Tuesday, the 9th, in the launch of the start of construction on the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Jardim Taquari, in the southern region of the capital. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Before the launch, they visited the construction site of the Santa Bárbara WWTP, scheduled for completion in November.

This action is part of the Palmas Cidade Azul Program, from the Municipality of Palmas, and the Foz/Saneatins Investment Program, with investments of approximately R$ 240 million, financed by the Sanitation for All Program of the Federal Government, through Caixa Econômica Federal. The program aims at the expansion and modernization of treated water distribution, sewage collection and treatment services.

Together, the three treatment plants will have the capacity to treat 60 liters of sewage per second. In parallel with the implementation of the treatment plants, 290 meters of sewer networks are being installed to serve the neighborhoods of Taquari, Bela Vista, Sol Nascente, Setor Sul, Santa Fé, Vale do Sol, Setor Canaã, Morada do Sol, Maria Rosa, Jardim Aureny IV, Irmã Dulce, Vila Piauí, and Taquaralto, where one of the largest concentrations of businesses in Palmas is located.

These investments will benefit more than 100 people with sewage collection and treatment in the most deprived area, which is also experiencing the greatest population growth in the city.

According to Mayor Carlos Amastha, this is an important achievement of the municipal executive branch, which, through the Sanitation Management Council, benefits a large number of people. "The population served will experience a leap in quality of life, especially in the area of health, because for every real spent on sanitation, six reais are saved in healthcare, and children living in blocks with these services perform 18% better in education, placing Palmas on the verge of becoming a developed city," the mayor pointed out.

He further emphasized that this is the path to universal access, since Palmas already has 52% coverage in its sewage treatment system. "And after the completion of these works, we will reach 80%, therefore becoming one of the first capital cities to have universal access to sewage treatment, thus solving a major problem in our city, which is of great importance to our administration," he said, adding that the intention is to reach 100%.

According to him, it is satisfying to see that, in a short period of time, the Santa Fé and Santa Bárbara wastewater treatment plants have become a reality. "The launch of the Taquari wastewater treatment plant crowns the joint effort of the City Hall and Foz|Saneatins, which will make Palmas a national reference in the provision of quality and comprehensive sanitation services, benefiting the entire population," Amastha concluded.
