SP 247 – The governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), suffered another defeat in court regarding the fare increases he implemented in the state.

This time, the judge of the 15th Court of Public Finance ordered the revocation of the fare increases applied to all intercity bus lines of EMTU.

The government had raised intercity fares in 31 cities in Greater São Paulo and on lines such as the ABD corridor. The decision also applies to the creation of integrated bus and rail fares at some intercity terminals.

The civil action was filed by the PT (Workers' Party) caucus in the Legislative Assembly. "The governor wanted to deceive the people, saying he wasn't going to give a raise, but in practice he did," said state representative Alencar Santana Braga in a video celebrating the decision released yesterday by the TJ-SP (Court of Justice of São Paulo).

The new decision, published on the afternoon of Wednesday the 11th, expands the effects of the first injunction from the TJ-SP (Court of Justice of São Paulo), which ordered the governor to reverse the 14,8% increase in the integration between buses and rails in the capital of São Paulo (read here).

After being forced to reverse the value of the integration in the capital, Alckmin threatened to increase The fare in the capital increased from R$ 3,80 to approximately R$ 4,05. In the initial injunction, the judge argued that raising the price of the integrated fare while maintaining the current fare in the capital would harm people who live further from the city center.
