Alckmin holds meeting with PSDB mayors and does not invite Doria.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to disguise the tense atmosphere between Geraldo Alckmin and João Doria, who are vying to be the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) candidate for the presidency in 2018; the governor invited mayors from the ABC Paulista region to participate in discussion groups regarding his government program for the presidential race; Doria, however, was not invited to participate in the meeting.

247 - The governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), invited mayors from the ABC Paulista region to join discussion groups for his government program in the presidential race.

At dinner on Monday (28), he devoted attention to macroeconomic issues, especially concession programs and job creation. The participation of the mayors was the responsibility of Paulo Alexandre Barbosa (PSDB), from Santos.

The mayor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), who is positioning himself as a presidential candidate, was not invited.

According to Folha's investigation, when questioned by the mayors about Doria, Alckmin said that "it's not a problem."

According to reports, he said it would be legitimate for Doria to seek the position, but then expressed reservations about a choice of that caliber.

He argued that resigning at the beginning of a first term would cause significant political damage.

In his own measured way, the governor of São Paulo showed himself enthusiastic about the election and confident in his candidacy. At least four mayors who had previously been hesitant left there determined to support him. According to one of them, who did not want to be identified, these would be the mayors of Rio Grande da Serra, São Caetano, Santo André, and Mauá.
