A faction within the PPS party linked to Serra is advocating for support for Campos.
The national president of the PPS party, federal deputy Roberto Freire (SP), stated that the majority of the party, including part of the São Paulo directory linked to former São Paulo governor José Serra (PSDB), wants the party to support the governor of Pernambuco and presidential candidate for the PSB, Eduardo Campos, going against the candidacy of the PSDB's Aécio Neves; “The majority tendency is to support Eduardo Campos. There are those who advocate supporting Aécio, but there is a strong tendency to support Eduardo. The São Paulo faction of the PPS linked to José Serra is leaning more towards Eduardo Campos,” he said.
Pernambuco 247 - The national president of the PPS, federal deputy Roberto Freire (SP), stated that the majority of the party, including part of the São Paulo directory linked to the former governor of São Paulo, José Serra (PSDB), would be seeking a closer relationship with the governor of Pernambuco and presidential candidate for the PSB, Eduardo Campos, going against the candidacy of Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG).
“The prevailing trend is to support Eduardo Campos. Nothing concrete can be stated. There are those who advocate supporting Aécio, but there is a strong tendency to support Eduardo,” the congressman assessed in an interview with Rádio Folha FM. “The São Paulo faction of the PPS linked to José Serra is leaning more towards Eduardo Campos,” said the post-communist leader. According to Freire, the party's branch in São Paulo practically decided on forming an alliance with Eduardo Campos during the municipal congresses held in that state, although the final decision rests with the National Executive Committee.
Freire also considers Campos' candidacy to be "important for Brazil, even though he is an alternative candidate who positions himself in opposition," highlighting the potential of both the socialist candidacy and that of the PSDB's Aécio Neves. With these statements, it is clear that the PPS has almost completely discarded the idea of launching its own ticket, as advocated by former councilwoman Soninha Francine (PPS-SP). It remains for the PPS to evaluate which alliance will bring more advantages to the post-communists in the next elections.
