Alagoas247 - The director of the Alagoas Prison Officers Union (Sindapen/AL), Fernando Oliveira, condemned the state's failure to fulfill its promise regarding the monthly payment of the stipend. According to him, the amount of R$ 600,00, plus an additional R$ 40,00 each month and progressively increasing, had been granted since October, but, as of December, the professionals have not yet received it.

“He [the governor] started paying correctly, as promised. With the breach of contract, we no longer want the amount paid separately, but rather incorporated into our salary of R$ 1.560,00. Furthermore, we want better working conditions, because it is unacceptable for a shift to consist of five officers to take care of nine hundred prisoners, and a public hiring process due to the shortage of one thousand officers in the state, since the ideal would be two thousand,” explained Fernando.

If the stipend payment is not made today, the category will paralyze activities on the 14th and 15th. And if the benefit is not incorporated into the professionals' salaries by the 23rd, there will be a general strike, maintaining 30% of services, that is, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and medical care, if necessary. In turn, escorts, visits and the opening of modules will be suspended. "Remember that all staff will be working and services will be reduced. Unfortunately, inmates may be left without visits during Christmas and New Year's, due to the government's irresponsibility," the union representative pointed out.

Co-management

The co-management model – Public-Private Partnership (PPP) – implemented at the Agreste prison in Girau do Ponciano, is having repercussions in the prison system of Maceió, which will have a new penitentiary next to Baldomero Cavalcanti. According to Fernando, the new prison is already overcrowded.

“Overcrowding is evident. In Cadeião, there are 600 inmates when there is room for 200; in Baldomero, 900 when there is room for 460; and in Cyridião, 800 when there is room for 360. Even with the new model, in which the Verdi Company will build and Reviver will manage, we already see a prison full within six months,” he highlighted.
