Aécio says that the PT is living in a climate of 'Lula's return'

"The institution of reelection makes reelection mandatory, it's almost compulsory. The non-candidacy of someone in office is, at the very least, a sign of the bankruptcy of that government. It comes with a certificate of inability to face the problem," said Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG), who participated in a lecture commemorating the 19th anniversary of the creation of the Real Plan at the FHC Institute; the presidential pre-candidate also said he had not received an invitation from Dilma for a meeting.

Aécio says that the PT is living in a climate of 'Lula's return'

Minas247 - The national president of the PSDB party, Senator Aécio Neves (MG), said this Monday that there is a climate within the PT party surrounding a possible candidacy of former president Lula next year. "The PT is experiencing this (Lula's return). The institution of reelection makes reelection mandatory, it's almost compulsory. The non-candidacy of someone who is in office is, at the very least, a sign of the bankruptcy of that government. It comes with a certificate of inability to face the problem," said the senator, who participated in a lecture commemorating the 19th anniversary of the creation of the Real Plan, at the FHC Institute in São Paulo.

For Aécio, holding a plebiscite for political reform demonstrates that the president is addressing the current protests in a "circumstantial manner," transferring responsibility for the current crisis to the National Congress. "To do this seriously, a reasonable amount of time is needed for people to understand what they are voting on. This seems to me once again a maneuver, like the exclusive Constituent Assembly, an instrument to divert attention from the central issues," he criticized.

The senator also highlighted that he was not invited to a meeting with President Dilma, which was supposedly convened to hear representatives from opposition parties. According to him, this meeting "lost its purpose." "We were willing to accept, but now that the president has already received the 'amen' from those who usually agree with her position, we doubt what purpose this meeting would serve," he said. "If it's to discuss the opposition's agenda, we could accept the invitation. If it's just to take another picture with her, I think she has more important things to do," he added.
