Lawyer and police officer exchange blows during incident in the capital.

Goiás 247_ The Brazilian Bar Association – Goiás Section (OAB-GO) states that lawyer Marcelo Roriz Soares de Carvalho e Toledo was assaulted by military police officers on Wednesday while attempting to exercise his professional rights. The OAB-GO reports that the lawyer was handcuffed and placed in the trunk of a police vehicle, and that Marcelo also sustained marks from a blow with a gun butt and scratches on his arm. He underwent a forensic medical examination at the IML (Institute of Legal Medicine).

The Military Police reported that if there was excessive force used, the officers will be held accountable for what happened. The assault on Marcelo Roriz occurred when he went to the Capital's Vehicle Theft and Robbery Division to assist another lawyer, Danúbia Campos de Oliveira.

She contacted the Commission on Rights and Prerogatives (CDP) of the OAB-GO (Brazilian Bar Association of Goiás), of which Marcelo is a member, after her professional rights were violated. Danúbia was prevented from accompanying the military police during a search of her client's property.
Marcelo Roriz, on duty at the CDP (Prison Detention Center), went to the scene. Also barred from entering, he challenged the conduct of the officers present and ended up being detained, with his cell phone and recorder confiscated. He was recording the entire conversation, as is standard procedure at the CDP, which allegedly motivated the officers' aggressive reaction.

In a statement, the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) criticized the actions of the military police. “All types of excess are reprehensible. When it comes to aggression committed by police officers, those responsible for combating violence, it becomes a serious matter. A lawyer was assaulted, and that is very serious. The OAB-GO considers any and all abuse committed by authorities to be abominable.”

Military police confirm disagreement.

In an interview with A Redação, Corporal Carvalho confirmed that the team responsible for the incident prevented the entry of lawyer Danúbia Campos, hired by the owner of the space identified as a vehicle dismantling site. "We prevented her because she was hindering the police work," the officer stated.

According to him, upon arriving at the scene, Marcelo Roriz disagreed with the officers' actions, which resulted in the physical assault. "The soldier has several scratches on his arms and also some bruises."

Both the lawyer who was allegedly hit with a gun butt and the police officer were taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML), where they underwent physical examinations. The case was also registered at the DEFVRA (Specialized Police Station for Vehicle Theft and Robbery).
