Demosthenes' lawyer confirms trips with the illegal gambling operator.
The Ministry of Justice sent data to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry showing that the senator and his wife, Flávia, traveled to the United States at least twice alongside Cachoeira.
247 - The Ministry of Justice sent data to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Cachoeira showing that Senator Demóstenes Torres (independent-GO) and his wife, Flávia, traveled to the United States at least twice alongside the illegal gambling operator.
The senator's lawyer, Antonio Carlos Almeida Castro, confirmed the information. In January 2011, the two traveled along with 20 other people to attend the birthday party of a businessman from Goiás in Miami.
Castro claims, however, that on the second trip reported to the CPI, which took place in February of this year, the senator was not present, only his wife, "because she is a friend of Andressa Mendonça, the wife of the illegal gambling operator." According to the defense, there is nothing illegal about the trips. "They had a personal relationship," he said.
