An agreement reached in the Labor Court between Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais (Usiminas), the Steelworkers and Metalworkers Union of Baixada Santista, and the Engineers Union of the State of São Paulo suspended the collective dismissal of 230 workers from the company. The agreement was mediated by the Labor Public Prosecutor's Office (MPT).

According to the agreement, any mass layoffs are also suspended from August 1st for a period of six months, under penalty of Usiminas paying compensation in the amount of R$ 500.

Individual layoffs should be limited to normal turnover, which has been agreed upon as 1,6% per month. If Usiminas lays off more employees than the established limit, the company will have to pay compensation to the dismissed employees.

The news outlet reached out to Usiminas, but the company has not yet responded.
