ACM Neto shines at the Bonfim Washing Festival.

For the young Democrat, it's a double thrill; the special one, as he himself admits, of being in his first term as mayor of Salvador; and the other, which he feels every year, is hearing praise and messages of encouragement from the population to pursue success in politics, especially from those who speak of missing his grandfather, the late former senator and governor ACM.

The absence of Governor Jaques Wagner (PT) ensured that Mayor ACM Neto (DEM) had all the attention focused on the Bonfim Washing, which takes place this morning.

For the young Democrat, double the emotion. The special one, as he himself admits, is that of being his first election as mayor of Salvador.

And the other feeling, the one he experiences every year, is hearing praise and messages of encouragement from the public to pursue success in politics, especially from those who speak of missing his grandfather, the late ACM.

Right at the gathering point, during the ecumenical service before the procession departed from the Church of Our Lady of the Conception of the Beach, the mayor remembered his old grandfather.

"Since he passed away, I've continued the tradition of coming here to watch the funeral procession. After all, this is one of the most important festivals in our city, part of the calendar of festivities and culture of Bahia."

The mayor said he will make a special request when he ascends the Sacred Hill. "I will ask him (the Lord of Bonfim) to enlighten us to face the challenges, which will not be small, and the task, which will be arduous."

When asked by Bahia Notícias about the fact that his name was the most remembered by the population to be a candidate for governor in 2014, ACM Neto didn't even wait for the question to be finished. "Forget it."
