The approach in Jardins needs to be different from that in the periphery, says the new commander of Rota.
Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Augusto Nascimento de Mello Araújo, 46, who has commanded approximately 700 men from the elite troop of the São Paulo Military Police since August 4th, stated that the police officers who operate in the upscale areas and the outskirts of São Paulo adopt different approaches; "It's a different reality. Different people circulate there. The way they approach them has to be different," he revealed.
SP 247 The new commander of ROTA, the elite troop of the São Paulo Military Police, stated in an interview with the UOL portal that his men have to use different approaches in the wealthier region of São Paulo and in the periphery.
"It's a different reality. There are different people who pass through there. The way he approaches them has to be different," said Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Augusto Nascimento de Mello Araújo, 46, who has commanded about 700 ROTA officers since August 4th.
"His approach has to be different. If he [the police officer] approaches a person [in the outskirts] in the same way he approaches a person here in Jardins [an upscale neighborhood in São Paulo], he's going to have difficulties. He won't be respected," he added.
"Similarly, if I put a [police officer] from the outskirts to deal with, to speak in the same way, with the same language that a person from the outskirts speaks here in Jardins, he may be being rude to a person from Jardins who is there, walking by," he added.
Mello Araújo comes from a family of military police officers and says he is in ROTA "out of idealism". Check it out here The full interview.
